On Saturday Onaping Falls Nordic Club hosted their annual Brent Wilson memorial skate race. The cold morning temperatures may have deterred some skiers but not local racers Aaron Duquette and Andrew Rees. They took part in the 10 km skate under sunny skies and on perfect trails. The race consisted of two 5k laps on rolling terrain which had plenty of up and down but no major climbing efforts. The temperature was around -16 at the start but warmed gradually to a comfortable -8 by early afternoon. Also of note was the generous prize table. With the extremely reasonable $7 registration fee it was hard not to turn a profit! Andrew placed second overall with a time of 30:00 (Lap 1 14:48, Lap 2 15:12) and Aaron placed sixth overall with a time of 37:08 (Lap 1 18:27, Lap 2 18:41).
