Canmore Nordic center was the site for the
Haywood Canada Cup Skiathlon. A Skiathlon or continuous pursuit is a mass start
race in which skiers will do half the distance classic then switch mid-race to
skating equipment (same boots) to complete the race. Andrew Rees was in
attendance.. "This was my first real race of the season and it was
certainly a task! At least every other race will seem easy, I don't think I've
ever worked so hard in any ski race or other sport ever! This format, at
altitude (when you live in Ont) with far less training than the competition is
very very difficult! Looking forward to the Canada Cups next year, hopefully
they'll go a little better. Two Alberta Cup races, a little more my speed,.
scheduled for later in the week have been cancelled (about 4 days in advance?!)
due to forecasted cold temps".
