The Northern Ontario Championships were held at the Walden ski club near Sudbury on the weekend. The weather was nice (for spring) with sunny skies and temperatures well above zero! Saturday was a 12km skate for the men with Andrew Rees placing 2nd overall and Aaron Duquette placing 8th in the Masters Men and 10th overall. Stephanie Rees raced to a 2nd place in the 6km women's event. Sunday was a 12km mass-start classic race for both the men and women. Waxing was difficult for some as the temperature climbed rapidly to 9 degrees C through the day. Team NSXC nailed the wax though and Andrew Rees was able to ski with the leaders for the whole race and tie for second overall (2sec from 1st) and first in the senior men category. Skating specialist Aaron Duquette skied very well in the classic style to finish 11th. Stephanie Rees again skied a good race to finish 2nd.
