2005 NBNSC Sprints and Loppet |
|
Saturday, 26 February 2005 |
The North Bay Nordic Ski Club (NBNSC) held it's
annual races this past weekend. On the docket were the Saturday sprint races
and the Sunday Loppet. Saturday's races were not well attended but the racing
action was fast and furious. In the open men's race Justin Faulkner of
Bracebridge edged Andrew Rees of NSXC by 1 second over two heats to capture
sprint gold. Both racers managed sub two minutes for the ~800m course. Steph
Rees swept both open women heats to capture gold. Sunday saw better attendance
in both the 35km classic and 16km skate events. A. Rees skied the two laps in 1:55
hours for a silver medal behind Sudbury marathon ski specialist Kerry Abols. Justin Faulkner
was third in 1:57 and Ken Sidney of Sudbury was fourth in at 2:00
hours. Steph Rees again captured gold in the women's 35km in 2:28.
Ros Prisco skied her first ever nordic race in the 8km skate event in a very
respectable 31 minutes. Aaron Duquette raced the 16km skate and got third
overall in 57 minutes. This despite being obstructed, falling and breaking his
collarbone with 1km to go! Our hopes are for his speedy recovery and seamless
transition into cycling season.
